Hahaha, good luck to them. They made a big mistake in how they enforced their license in the past and will be paying for it for a long time to come.

More GPLed products just can’t be a bad thing and that they realised they have to change is a good point.

The battle ended when WordPress opened up its hosted blogging platform, WordPress.com, and when it released WordPress 2.0

Exactly right. SixApart are in a sprint to catch up – their GPL announcement makes that pretty transparent. Great post, Gary!

I think any other product is going to have to pull out something very special to get me to even look at an alternative to wordpress now. It’s not just the base system, it’s all the fantastic plugins and templates that are available.
