King Gary has a look that’s brand-spanking new!

After much deliberation, mostly with myself, and with other people who have absolutely no design experience (which is why I simply tossed their advice - sorry guys! ;) ), I have finally broken down and decided that my website really needs a major overhaul. Thus, the new look is what you now see before you.

I personally think that this is the best change I’ve made to this site since I started blogging here, and I hope that you’ll agree, too. I’m pretty sure that the old theme didn’t have many fans, so I couldn’t wait to release this new theme for public viewing.

For posterity’s sake, I have saved the old theme. It can still be viewed here if you choose to do so, but I doubt many will take that option. For everyone else, bathe in the warm glow of a new design, and rejoice in the fact that my new design looks much nicer now! :D If you’ve got any questions, comments, or concerns, then as always, feel free to post a comment to let me know what’s on your mind :)

Looks more professional, less Disney like, which is good… unless Disney sues you for no reason. Not that the previous one looked anything like Disney…

    JW,

Anything that looks like Disney’s stuff, and made by me, is good enough in my books!

Much better - cleaner, sharper. Good job!

Very nice. Much cleaner than the old design.

I like it, clean, whitespace. It would be nice if there was a small smiley photo thumbnail up in the about part of the sidebar, as the blog is about you it’s good to put a face to a name? :)

    Mark and Paul, thanks! :)

Chris, I’ve added the photo of myself that I normally use into the sidebar. Hopefully it’s good enough that I don’t have to take a few more head shots of myself :D

Chris, I’m glad that the photo is suitable enough for the sidebar :)

    Darren, thanks!

I already told you what I thought, but I’m casting around for any excuse to put off studying for a bit longer.

Everything’s smaller now, so it fits more info without having to scroll down = good.

I just noticed. Didn’t there use to be a link to all the projects you’ve worked on?

    David,

Which link do you speak of? You can view the old layout by clicking on the link that I provided in this post.

Hey Gary, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, and I like the new look, but shouldn’t you give Jeff Hardy some love?

    Ben, check the footer.

Cool Gary, thanks for adding that. I’m sure Jeff will appreciate it.

    Ben,

No problem. I meant no disrespect! :) On a side note, it’s always nice to see fellow Torontonians who are also Ruby on Rails developers :)

I think you should still use an image for your logo. On my work computer (windows xp, firefox/IE) I don’t have ClearType, so the aliased font doesn’t look so hot. Also, the a:hover underline is kinda annoying and inconsistent throughout Firefox (thick) and IE (really thin). It’s unappealing since it’s supposed to be a banner, yet has the underline

    Anonymous,

I have now changed the logo to an image because like you said, it looks better on different computers.

I’ve also fixed the tabs on IE since they looked funky for a while.
