Post Stumbler WordPress plugin

Posted by Gary King on July 15, 2007 at 2:10 am

stumbleupon.pngI’m releasing a plugin which I’ll call the Post Stumbler WordPress plugin (originally to be called the “Stumble Upon” WordPress plugin, but it doesn’t use Stumble Upon at all - even though it tries to mimic its functionality) because that will help most people to understand what it does.

After building this, I found a post that was made over at TechCrunch which discusses about how it would be interesting if WordPress could have similar functionality to what Stumble Upon provides, so I hope that this fulfills that need.

What it does

Posted by Gary King on July 14, 2007 at 8:00 am

Do you have a lot of WordPress plugins and want an easier way of browsing them all? Would a Table of Contents for all of them help you browse through them faster? Then this WordPress plugin modification is for you!

First of all, here’s how it will look like in the end (I’ve hidden some plugins that I’d prefer not to appear in the screenshot):

Not blogging at Blog Herald anymore

Posted by Gary King on July 11, 2007 at 3:35 pm

logo.gifJust a quick thing, but I’ve stopped blogging at Blog Herald. The posts that I’ve previously written are still accessible, though. I’ve got way too many other things going on these days so I’m trying to prioritize my time - especially with the many Facebook Applications that I’m working on.

I’d like to thank Tony for giving me the opportunity to write there - it’s been a great experience the whole time!

70 strangers meet to build a startup over the weekend

Posted by Gary King on July 07, 2007 at 11:12 pm

startup-weekend.png70 people who have never met each other before have discussed online to build a startup over this weekend. It’s called Startup Weekend. TechCrunch mentions it here. The product that they are building is called VoSnap, and it’s supposed to help a large group of people agree on decisions quickly. I’m guessing that this was partly inspired by the situation that they themselves are currently in.

Year of the Linux Desktop is 2008

Posted by Gary King on July 06, 2007 at 11:02 pm

tux.pngMaximum PC is convinced that 2008 is the “Year of the Linux Desktop”, taking into account the fact that people are moving away from Vista and moving towards a cheaper alternative. I imagine that people are not only moving away from Vista to Linux, but away from Windows to Mac OS X as well.

Personally, I’m still waiting for Mac OS X Leopard!

It’s easy to forget that the iPhone is USA-only

Posted by Gary King on July 05, 2007 at 11:45 pm

It’s nice to read long blog posts talking about the iPhone extensively, such as this one that Walt Mossberg posts today which answers questions asked about the product, but it pains me when the iPhone won’t be available in Canada for at least a couple of years. Doh!

That’s quite a lot of applications in each category, don’t you think?

Zoho is now on Facebook - or is it?

Posted by Gary King on July 03, 2007 at 12:46 pm

zoho_logo_new.gifZoho just announced that they released their Zoho office suite as a Facebook Application. When I saw this, I installed it on Facebook to give it a test drive.

Immediately after installing the application, I noticed that I need to STILL have a Zoho account even though I’m already on Facebook and they should just be able to identify me from my Facebook account. TechCrunch poses a similar question.

Get paid to be someone else

Posted by Gary King on July 02, 2007 at 11:43 pm

Looks like people are starting to get paid to be someone else on places like Facebook. People are even paying $2,000 USD or more for someone else to act as them on Facebook, on other social networks, on blogs, on forums, and other places online. Read the rest of the story here.
