Rails Day 2006
I’ve decided not to go ahead with Rails Day 2006. I’m too tired to last 24 hours straight and still have energy to study for three exams the immediate next week after. There’s also about a 25% chance of winning any prize whatsoever - which is pretty damn good. Oh well, there’s always next year!

To answer some questions for mesh-ies + 15MOF ’speech’ transcript

I’ve been getting several emails asking some questions, some of which have been said in my 15MOF segment.
Here they are:
Q: What age did you begin web development?
A: 2001 (age 13)
Also, the transcript for my ’speech’ is now here. (Since mesh posted the events on ITC, here’s the transcript if you don’t want to bother listening to it - still hasn’t happened yet):
So, first of all, I hope everyone’s having a great time here at mesh today. I know I am.
Okay, well as you know, my name is Gary King from kinggary.com, and I’m a high school senior. If you read the mesh blog, you’ll also know that the team was nice enough to sell me an already-sold-out mesh student’s ticket, apparently due to my tenacity. But, I think there’s something even more important than simply being tenacious. Now, I know you’ve probably already heard this before, but it’s about being passionate. It’s about choosing something you love and really working at it. I’m not simply talking about these tickets; I’m talking about something on a grander scale. Now, I’m not here to sell you anything today; instead, I’m going to tell you a story of how the web can really empower a person with technology, without any regards to age, race, or gender.

Today was the last day of school
Well, today was the last day of school, not including exams. I saw the place that I’ve known for four years for the last time (because I probably won’t be traversing the hallways anymore during the exams), and so I now focus on the future. Waterloo. My business. Myself.
Also, we had a nice ‘party’ outside after school for about four hours, to end the day. Pretty much all of the people that were at the BBQ after the prom were also there, which was nice. This time, we weren’t as tired.

Bill Gates is leaving Microsoft completely in 2 years

This is according to a press release from Microsoft. It seems like even he doesn’t get his life fulfilled by Microsoft anymore, and is looking for a better way for self-fulfillment. He’s going to be working at his Gates Foundation full-time after his 2 year transition away from Microsoft.

Giving comments all day - I’ll miss everyone!
Today’s day was spent writing comments in many yearbooks. It does eventually get pretty tiring, though. I didn’t enter any classrooms today, either, except when I was returning textbooks, and those moments usually lasted about 10 seconds or less.
Also, to everyone whom I commented in their yearbook, I wrote my site’s URL below my comments, so you can use that to keep in touch if you ever need to, maybe one, five, or ten years later down the road. Just click on the ‘Contact’ button at the top of the page to find me.
And finally, for some reason, I’m already looking forward to commencement. It seems as though school ended several days ago, and commencement will also bring new news from students about new things they’ve accomplished, things they’ve done, and so on.

I’m awake at 4 am
I woke up at 4 am this morning to clear my head a bit… I think I got two hours of sleep (2 am - 4 am.) But, the funny thing is, I feel fine. When I’m moving, anyways, otherwise I’ll fall asleep while not doing anything.

My final violin lesson
Well, I had my final violin lesson just yesterday. My big, final performance comes up in two weeks, though. I have absolutely no idea if I’ll intend on pursuing violin any further, but we’ll just see if I can survive without it, first.

Business vs. (student) life

Business interferes with life as a student, and being a student has no place in business. What’s a man to do to make both work?
